What I Have Learned About Blogging This Year

It is official!  My BLOG is 1 year old

What do I have to show for it?!

Absolutely nothing!!!

Well in all honesty, I have gained a few followers, updated the look, gained some basic knowledge of what it is to have a blog and even learned code (wish you could see my face as I say that..LOL) ..... That all counts for something right!?!

But really the set up of starting a blog is simple

Keeping a blog..That's the challenge!

So what are my best words for the first year...Where shall I begin......

1) It is either BlogSpot or Wordpress
Really the main sites for which carry blogs. If you look it up, it is continuously being contested. Wordpress does seem to reign superior; Having all the cool gadgets and such.
Blogger is simplier; and because I had no idea what I was doing, Blogger it was for me. I knew google, I could work with it. And I have just fine!

2) Starting from the Bottom
"Started from the bottom, now were here. Started from the bottom now my whole team here" (Drake). HAHA here for me is literally HERE...What your reading now!
A blog is a little fish in a sea of the internet. Reality is that you wont be anywhere over night or over weeks....well unless you have some miraculous uber-cool posts! But gaining the traffic you hope for is work.

3) SEO, Pictures, Tags, Labels, Links, Descriptions.....OH MY!
I don't even know where to begin. I only learned how to do the SEO stuff on my blog last week!! Do you realize that you need to have everyone of those things in your blog. What do they all do?
For starters, SEO is the very thing that gets your name out there. Pictures need to be clean and almost professional. Labels keep your shit organized. Links are also another way of organization and cleanliness, within your blog and out of it. Descriptions are part of SEO; Having descriptions for your blog and each post helps the Web find you.

4) The Work
I originally started this off as a hobby. Something fun and easy. Doing whatever I wanted to do.
Yet I quickly realized that half the time I spent writing for fun, I was editing and re-writing and organizing it all; and the fonts and size and words and exclamations...I mean the editing process was more then I thought..IDK maybe its because I can be a little bit of a perfectionist. But spending so much time on editing makes you really want to put your heart and soul into it; as you should.

5) Posting Regularly
The blogging gods say that you should post at least 2-3 times a week. Purely to continue to engage your followers. Which for this momma can be a challenge! I have taken many breaks from my little blog and how in the world am I suppose to be taken seriously if I can't produce!

6) Socialize
Really Socialize. I think that another big mistake of mine is that I tend to be un-socialable at times. Not that I am trying to purposely be un-socialable but being social requires the time. Sure I have all the social media accounts and I post to them frequently but viewing/liking other post is just as important. Put yourself out there! Introduce yourself. Make yourself know! How will anyone find you if you are not even looking for them!?

Reality is that their is much more to learn.
Much to do and always room for improvement.
Investing money into your blog is both helpful and more professional; to be taken seriously. I personally have not invested much yet but it also happens to be my next step!

Bogging is a way of life, not the other way around!
Let me know your thoughts! Are you thinking of starting a blog? Do you have one? If so, What advice can you give me?

  1. Hi Jeanette, congrats on reaching your 1st blogiversary. Great summary of your 1st year. Looks like you learned a lot. I know when I 1st started I thought it would be much harder than it really was. I can tell you that it will get easier and easier the more you do it. I know you are doing this for fun but if you continue to blog I recommend you consider Wordpress and monetizing your blog. Once you see a little $ coming in that's when blogging gets really fun. Again well done. Let me know if I can help or encourage you in any way!
